3D Inverse Design Method for Development of Centrifugal Pumps

Grundfos are one of the world’s leading pump manufacturers for circulators, heating and air-conditioning as well as other centrifugal pumps. They have been a pioneer in utilizing computer aided engineering (CAE) in their design, development and manufacturing process for pumps and motors.

Grundfos have been using an integrated CAE and design system with ANSYS/CFX for structural and fluid flow analysis and TURBOdesign 1 for hydrodynamic design. The application of TURBOdesign1 resulted in significant improvement in efficiency and suction performance for various pump applications.

The main benefit of TURBOdesign1 and the inverse design based approach provided fast and accurate 3D automatic optimization. Download the case study to read two examples of how Grundfos improved the efficiency of both pump and impeller performance with reduced design cost and lead time whilst meeting emission regulations such as EU’s ECOdesign directive.
